FAQs for EVLT®

How does EVLT® work?
The laser energy causes the vein wall to shrink so that the blood cannot flow through it. This eliminates vein bulging at its source.

Is loss of this vein a problem?
No. After treatment, the blood in the faulty veins will be diverted to the many normal veins in the leg.

What are the complications of this procedure?
There are minimal complications with EVLT®. A small number of patients have experienced temporary numbness.

Am I at risk from the laser?
No. Just as a precaution against accidental firing of laser energy outside the body, you will be given a pair of special glasses to protect your eyes.

How successful is EVLT®?
Published clinical studies show that EVLT® has a 98% initial success rate with excellent long-term results.

How many treatments will I need?
Each patient’s treatment plan is different. The type of treatment depends on the size and number of veins. Treatment may involve several different modes of therapy e.g. endovenous laser treatment, ambulatory phlebectomy, sclerothearpy, or a combination of these.

Patient Testimonials

"I had an ambulatory phlebectomy by Dr. Vorhies. I had varicose veins that were unable to be lasered due to their location. My symptoms were a weighty feeling in my right leg every month when I had my period. It was painful. I thought I'd always have to endure that discomfort until I saw Dr. Vorhies. He took out three separate veins and now I have no discomfort (and no unsightly blue huge veins). Great procedure. Compassionate physician. I would definitely recommend him."
