What do your eyes say about you?
Often the first sign of aging is in your eyes. This delicate area of skin is only a third as thick as the rest of the skin on your face and is one of the earliest areas to exhibit the signs of the aging process. The skin around the eyes does not contain sebaceous glands which means this area is dry and more susceptible to wrinkling. Combine this dryness with the 10,000 average coordinated eye movements per hour and you have stressed skin that leads to fine lines and wrinkles.
In addition to lines and wrinkles, individuals often experience dark under eye circles and puffiness. Allergies and heredity can cause circles and puffiness to occur, however damaged red blood cells in the delicate eye area may seep from weakened walls of the small capillaries can be a cause as well.
So what can be done to combat these issues wrecking havoc to the windows of the soul? The first line of defense is to use products that exfoliate, moisturize and correct these issues. Using the right products in a skin improvement plan is key to having the most beautiful, healthy skin possible.
Exfoliation products such as SkinCeuticals Retinol can be used to accelerate cell turnover, cell regeneration and collagen stimulation to diminish the appearance of fine lines.
Products that moisturize and repair the skin of the delicate eye area can also provide a healthier appearance. SkinCeuticals AGE Eye Complex works to provide correction when used at night to decrease puffiness, provide collagen remodeling and increase moisture. SkinCeuticals AOX+ Eye Gel (5% antioxidant) works to prevent future damage when used every morning to protect from free radicals. It also reduces puffiness with caffeine and works to tighten the skin.
SkinCeuticals Eye Balm is a rehabilitative emollient that immediately firms and tones the delicate, moisture-deprived eye area. This product contains a natural anti-inflammatory to reduce puffiness.
In addition to these products, PaloVia™ from Palomar, which manufactures lasers in use at Advanced Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery, is now available. This is the first FDA cleared at home fractional laser clinically proven to reduce fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. 92% of clinical study participants had noticeable improvements in wrinkles just one month after use. Staff of Advanced Aesthetics have been using the PaloVia for the past month and everyone has seen noticeable improvement.
PaloVia is intended to complement, not replace, a range of skin care products and is only cleared by the FDA for treatment of the eye area.
Cosmetic procedures like injections, laser treatments and surgeries are also wonderful ways to improve the appearance of the skin. In addition to skin care products, the physicians of Advanced Aesthetics offer injections with products such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® to reduce the appearance of the pesky number eleven sign between the eyebrows and the crow's feet at the outer corners of the eyes. Dermal fillers can also be injected under the eyes to decrease the appearance of the "hollow eye look".
Dr. Kenton Schoonover and Dr. Richard DeSplinter, board certified plastic surgeons, are also available for no charge consultations to discuss blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery).
The proper skin care regimen can take results to a whole new level and preserve the skin's rejuvenated appearance for years to come. Confused about what kind of regimen is best for you? Call today to schedule your no charge skin care consultation with one of the medical aestheticians for recommendations regarding which products and procedures.
